LONG ISLAND CONNIE MACK LEAGUE
SPORTS INSURANCE ADVISORY
Sports Insurance has gone through a number of changes in
recent years. As a result of large
claims, insurance companies and the brokers who work with these companies have
placed a number of stipulations on organizations that request both accident
medical expense and comprehensive liability.
To be sure that you are in compliance with the most common of these
stipulations, it is necessary for you to take the following actions within your
organization, regardless of the carrier from whom you take your insurance:
- Ensure
that the participant, and parents or guardians in the case of minors,
understand that they will be engaging in activities that involve risk of
injury and social and economic losses which might result not only from
their own actions, inactions, or negligence, but the action, inaction or
negligence of others, or the condition of the premises or of any equipment
used. In order to comply with the
stipulations of the League insurance carrier, Gagliardi Insurance
Services, teams participating in the League insurance program must obtain
parental consent for participation by minors. However, it is strongly recommended that the registration
procedures for all teams include parental consent for participation by
minors.
- Assure
the participants and parents or guardians in the case of minors, that the
Long Island Connie Mack League, Inc. will take all necessary actions to
ensure that playing facilities are safe and equipment used is in
compliance with League, Municipal and National Organization safety
standards. If the participant
believes anything is unsafe, he/she should immediately advise his/her
manager or coach of such condition(s) and may refuse to participate.
- Reconfirm
to all participants and parents or guardians in the case of minors, that
Sports Insurance coverage is mandatory for all organizations that
participate in the Long Island Connie Mack League, Inc. program. The limits of such coverage are set by
the municipalities, school districts and college facilities where games
are played and by the various national organizations who sponsor
tournaments in which our teams may participate. The Long Island Connie Mack League, Inc. carries the maximum
insurance available for both Accident Medical Expense and Comprehensive
Liability. Teams that elect to use
their own insurance carrier must adhere to the required limits and name
the Long Island Connie Mack League, Inc as “also insured”.
